Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a highly relaxed state of consciousness, which can be used to influence unconscious processes. It has been used therapeutically across all cultures probably since the beginning of medicine.

In medicine and therapy hypnosis  is a fast and effective therapy method. It's importance has been continuously increasing.
Hypnosis is a scientifically accepted therapeutical treatment.

How does hypnosis work?

Hypnotherapy is psychotherapy in an altered state of consciousness - called "trance".

During hypnotherapy different techniques of suggestion and imagination are used to communicate with the subconscious.

During the trance the client has possibilities that are not available to his conscious will. For example, vegetative functions can be affected, pain can be reduced or eliminated, moods can be changed quickly, the client can relive his childhood, experience a vision of his own future, or empathize other people. In trance restrictive aspects of one's controlling waking consciousness are reduced so that one's full unconscious potential can be activated.

To demonstrate the possibilities of hypnosis here are two pictures of me in which I have altered my perception of pain to the extent that my arm felt as if an anaesthesia was administered:

A trance process will inevitably be guided to some extent by the hypnotherapist. Yet in modern hypnotherapy the self-motivation of the client will be integrated and his or her creative potential will be promoted. The client is never forced into a direction that goes against him or her.

Can I be hypnotized?

Basically, every person can be hypnotized, as long as he or she wants to.

Often one hears statements as: "I cannot be hypnotized!" What this statement supposedly means: "My will is too strong." Such a statement reveals that such a person believes only weak-minded people could be hypnotized. But the exact opposite is true: The more intelligent and more strong-willed someone is, the better he or she can be hypnotized - if he or she wants it!

In fact, it is particularly the strong will to make a change in one's live which enables a person to reach a deep state of trance.
