Reimbursement of treatment by the health insurance

As an alternative psychotherapist I am not permitted by law to deal directly with your health insurance.

As a member of a private health insurance, you should contact your insurance company directly.

As a member of a compulsory health insurance you have the possibility to apply for reimbursement of  your psychotherapy sessions.

You should proceed as follows:

  • Ask an official of your health insurance how you can make an application for the reimbursement of psychotherapy sessions. Emphasize that the therapy is urgently needed and that you were not able to find a health insurance approved therapist within a reasonable time frame.
  • Normally an informal letters suffices. In this letter you should clarify why you require the treatment of an non-health insurance approved psychotherapist.
  • Include an attestation of necessity resp. urgence provided by a medical doctor or psychotherapist stating that a therapeutical treatment is necessary, urgent and non-deferrable.
  • Evidence proving that no psychotherapist was able to provide you with an appointment for therapeutical sessions within an reasonable time frame. Some health insurances require written refusals or a documentation of carried-out phone calls (notes about the date, time and result of the conversation with the approved psychotherapist).

The settlement of psychotherapeutical sessions is then carried out as a private treatment which is later paid for by the health insurance:

You submit the invoices of your sessions to your health insurance which will in turn refund your expenses.
